Engineering teams needing private/local AI coding assistance
Cursor is an agent-centred coding tool: a desktop editor, a CLI and cloud agents that plan and make multi-file changes, then hand the work back for your review.
Free; Plus $8/month (Grok models only); Premium $30/month plus third-party model usage; Teams from $30/user/month · Free tier: Limited agent and Chat requests · Checked Oct 17, 2026
Cursor's homepage presents the desktop editor, a terminal agent and parallel cloud agents, and says Cursor can also take requests in Slack and review GitHub pull requests. The desktop app runs on macOS, Windows and Linux, while models are hosted services chosen from a picker that includes several providers and Cursor's own Composer models. Since Cursor became part of SpaceX, the pricing page sells a combined Cursor and Grok subscription: a limited Free plan, then Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra tiers starting at $8/month, plus Teams and Enterprise. Plus covers Grok models only, and third-party models are billed by usage at API list price, so monthly cost depends on which models you use.
Bottom line: Choose Cursor to delegate multi-file coding work to agents across editor, terminal and GitHub; check current plans and third-party model charges first.

Cursor is an AI coding product built around agents: you describe a task, the agent plans and edits files, and you review the result. Its homepage shows three ways to work with it: a desktop editor, a command-line agent installed with a shell script, and cloud agents that the company says run in parallel on their own machines. The same page says Cursor can take requests in Slack and review pull requests in GitHub.
The downloads page offers the desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux. The app is installed locally, but the models are hosted services: Cursor’s model picker lists options from several providers alongside its own Composer models, and the pricing page bills third-party model use separately.
After Cursor became part of SpaceX, its pricing page began presenting a combined Cursor and Grok subscription sold through X Subscription Corp. It lists a Free plan with limited agent and Chat requests, Plus at $8/month (Grok models only), Premium at $30/month, Super at $100/month, Ultra at $200/month, Teams from $30 per user per month and custom Enterprise pricing. Third-party models are not included in the plan’s usage pool; Cursor bills them by usage at API list price. These plans changed recently, so confirm them before buying.
Cursor’s API documentation describes a Cloud Agents API (beta) and SDKs for running agents from code, plus admin, analytics and Bugbot APIs for Enterprise teams. Cursor says these are agent-workflow interfaces, not a model-inference API.
Cursor fits developers who want to hand multi-file tasks to an agent and review the output, and teams that want the same agent in the editor, terminal, Slack and GitHub. The pages reviewed here do not describe a self-hosted option, and heavy use of third-party models adds usage charges on top of the subscription.
